Options

There are several options to consider when ordering a crossbow from me.

Wood

I normally work in maple, cherry, and walnut.  More exotic woods can be had for an extra price.

Stirrup

I can make the stirrup out of 3/4" bar stock, or from 1-1/4" bar stock.  If you are from Caid, you'll be wanting the 1-1/4" inch stuff for certain.  I usually use 1/8" thicknesses, but if you want something more robust (and heavier), I can use 3/16" thicknesses.  Just let me know if you have a preference.

Size

I've been experimenting with a smaller-sized crossbow.  My 'standard' rig uses a 36" prod blank, while the smaller size starts with a 32" blank.  I make the tiller commensurately smaller as well.  These crossbows would be perfect for someone of a shorter stature to use (easier to bend over to pull, easier to hold on aim, etc.)  They still have quite a heft, with pulls of 80-100 pounds at draw, and ips ratings of 600 to 875.  They are slightly less accurate, though more than adequate for SCA use.

Finish

I have two types of finish that I use on bows.  Either a spray lacquer or an oil-based finish.  Both finishes require some upkeep (hit it with some steel wool from time to time and re-apply).  The spray lacquer is the easiest for me to do, and it really shows off the wood.  For examples of a spray lacquer, look here and here.

The oil finish soaks into the wood, and give a softer matte finish that can be waxed and polished if desired.  Look here for an example of an oil finish.

I can also stain the crossbow to a darker color.  My favorite stain is a deep red mohogany, which you can see here (under lacquer) and here (under oil).

Finally, I can stain the binding and string to look 'old' as found here.  I can try this on most any finish, but it looks best with a stain&oil finish on the tiller.

Fiberglass Prods

Some parts of the known world restrict their crossbows to having fiberglass prods only.  Not a problem; we can make your favorite crossbow with a fiberglass prod on request, with a bit of foam "bulking up" and a sewn leather covering, like on the one shown here.  There is no extra cost for substituting a fiberglass prod for the standard aluminum, though I recommend aluminum if you have a choice.

Something Special

If you have something different you want to add to personalize your bow, just let me know, and we'll work out a price for you.

Ready to Order?

To begin the process of having a crossbow built for you, send some email to me.

Our standard models with bowstring sell for $210.00 plus $30 shipping, made in two payments.  The first payment of $100 is due at the time of ordering; the second when the crossbow is completed and boxed for shipping.

Your check or money order is good with me, but I prefer PayPal, which allows you to use your credit card to pay my credit card, without either of us having to worry about security or the lack thereof.  We will make final purchasing/shipping arrangements at the time of order.
