Foamie Fletching

Home

Here's a quick photo essay on a simple alternative to taped-on card stock fletching for Fellwalker bolts.  The fletching is made from rectangles of Foamies -- a 2mm thick craft foam available in the craft section at most Walmart stores.  In these photos, I used the self-adhesive type, but those tend to separate after a few days.  Instead, you should use the non-adhesive foamies, and put them together with contact cement.  Much better results.

Start with rectangles of foam that are larger than the finished fins because you will trim it to size after it is attached to the bolt.  As you are getting the two pieces of foam stuck together, be sure to curve them as you apply pressure.  It may take a few trials, but you'll get the hang of it.  Trim to shape and add a few pieces of tape to secure the front and the back.

In just a few seconds you can have nice curved fletching on your Fellwalkers that doesn't affect the integrity of the shaft or APD (not that the card stock ones do) and is made of nice soft foam with no sharp edges.
